In The Listening Hour, a stone angel rests amidst a garden of vibrant proteas and wild blooms, her posture a blend of contemplation and quiet astonishment. A hummingbird hovers before her as if delivering a message from beyond the veil, while another bird perches on a protea in the far field sentinels of spirit and voice.
The composition balances the sculptural stillness of the figure with a field of movement: the flicker of wings, the tilt of petals, the hush of a breeze implied in the sweeping pastel sky. As with much of my work, this piece inhabits the threshold between silence and revelation, evoking the sensation of overhearing the earth’s whispered prayers.
The angel does not speak, she listens. She listens to color, to pollination, to the ephemeral moment in which grace arrives unannounced and takes a seat among the flowers.
